Twin City Theatre Company announces auditions for Significant Other by Joshua Harmon. Directed by Nolan J. Rice.
Auditions will be held at Champaign Public Library in Roberson Pavilion Room C Performances November 7-15, 2026 @ Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.
About the Show: Jordan Berman would love to be in love, but that’s easier said than done. So until he meets Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of close girlfriends. But as singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, Jordan discovers that the only thing harder than finding love is supporting the loved ones around you when they do. From the critically acclaimed writer who brought you Bad Jews.
Casting breakdown: Significant Other features 4 female- presenting roles and 3 male-presenting roles. No roles have been precast. Twin City Theatre Company encourages performers of all backgrounds and ethnicities to audition.
Jordan: Late 20s to early 30s male. Can’t imagine what life is like without his close friends. Wants to be seen as who he is, not the “quirky best friend” character of everyone’s life. Has a lot of love in his heart, doesn’t know where to put it. Concerned, impulsive, listens very well.
Laura: Late 20s to early 30s female. Excited about how her life is now, and always excited for what might come next. Cares for Jordan, and tries to be selective about when she offers her shoulder to cry on. She’s happy for her friends, who move forward to greater things with their lives. Empathetic, funny, always curious.
Kiki: Late 20s to early 30s female. Looooooves where she’s ended up in life. Is grateful and excited for every moment she gets to be herself. Was definitely the party animal in college, and the party animal still comes out sometimes. Chatty, forward, very confident.
Vanessa: Late 20s to early 30s female. A sharp-witted editor for Knopf, with a love for the arts. Jumps at the opportunity of excitement, eager for what comes next in her life, and willing to try anything once. Direct, grounded, no BS.
Helene: 60s to 70s female. Loves her Jordy, just wants him to be happy like his parents were when they raised him. Tends to go on tangents, may not be able to read the room. Respects her old traditions but comes around to new ones when she sees how much they mean to Jordan. Warm, unafraid, very funny.
*Will/Conrad/Tony: Male . A man’s man of few words, with the gruff stillness of a working man from Maine. More of a quiet listener and lover than an outgoing one.
*Evan/Roger/Zach: Male. Talks before he thinks, loves thinking about how people see him. In each role, he is what anyone can call: the Fun Coworker.
*Actor will perform multiple characters throughout the show.
